COMPASS

Is a diagnostic and treatment process to develop a global picture of your child’s functioning in different environments and situations.

COMPASS provides a big picture perspective from which the team can determine not only “what to teach” but also how to match a child’s unique learning style with a multi-component intervention program. By establishing the family’s long-term vision and uniting it with a systematic plan to meet today’s needs, a family has a road map for moving forward with services to support learning, sensory integration, cognition, speech and language, and behavioral development.

COMPASS helps a local team by providing them with a very specific set of practical strategies and helps to ensure that all members are implementing the program in consistent manner. Using the CIP-Matrix, a team can be more fully prepared to know exactly what supports are needed and when to implement them. Many teams have commented on how the CIP-Matrix helped to increase teaming consistency while reducing the “guess work”.  While the three components can be used individually, it is highly recommended that all three are used when developing or “redeveloping” a student’s program that has historically posed challenges. Three Major Components

Text Box: Conducting an ELA can significantly turn-around a program by ensuring that a child’s learning style is being addressed and by having a proper match between learning style and supports.
